Welcome, I have a couple of articles in the works and a couple of guest articles coming. If you feel like sending something in I may use some or all of it but you will get cridit if I use it. I'm looking for info on the official name for 2 drugs developed from creosote, one is an infection blocker for people with low immune systems and the other is an anti-cancer drug for the digestive tract. I'll more info on that plant in future articles.
It's that time of year again when the spring flowers dazzle us and our seasonal visitors. It's kind of a guess who's going to show up because many of our seeds can lay dormant for 20 years or more. There are 15 or 20 regulars but for the rarer flowers it has to rain on a certain day at a certain time, the amount of rain has to be right and so does the temperature. A good example of everything being just right is the Saguaro. An average large Saguaro produces 150,000 seeds a year and almost all of the seeds are eaten by birds and ants. But it has to be eaten by a bird and pass through their system, land in a bush or under atree and wait. Wait for that perfect day of wet ground, temperature, etc. And even then only one seed out of 30 to 40 million will grow to be a large Saguaro. So any way what will make this year even better is if we get warm enough soon the Palo Verde, Mesquite, and Ironwood trees will join in the display to create an incredible year that could prove to be a 30 to 50 year flowering. There could be flower patches covering 20 to 50 thousand acres or more. The best place to find out where the best place to go is the Desert Botanical Garden's website. Its also a great place to visit to learn about our states plants. Check out my links page to go to the Botanical Gardens and other great places.
